Who we are

The data controller for this website is London Renters Union Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (Company No. 11343619), whose registered office is at Pelican House, 144 Cambridge Heath Road, London, E1 5QJ.

Resist Rent Rises is organised by a coalition of housing organisations. London Renters Union acts as data controller for all personal data collected through this website.

What data we collect and why

When you enter your details in the Rent Check & Challenge tool or one of our sign up forms, we collect your name, email address, phone number, postcode and information about your rent and property. We use this information to allow the tool to function and to send you emails or telephone you about support we may be able to provide you and about the Resist Rent Rises campaign. By signing up, you may receive updates about the campaign and related campaigns from London Renters Union and other organisations that are part of the coalition. 

The lawful basis for all of the above is legitimate interests: contacting you about the campaign you are signing up for and adding anonymised information about your rent rise to a database so that it can be used as part of the responses given to other users. We do not consider this to override your rights and freedoms as a registrant. 

Who we share your data with

Your data is held by the London Renters Union on behalf of the Resist Rent Rises steering group. 

For the purposes of putting you in touch with your local tenants union we may pass your information on to one of the following organisations: Greater Manchester Tenants Union, Oxford Renters Union, or another local tenant union that has been approved by the Resist Rent Rises steering group. 

We do not sell or share your data with any third party for commercial purposes.

We use the following third-party services to store and process data on our behalf:

• Airtable — used to store data
• Zapier — used to connect and automate data workflows between our tools
• Mailchimp - used to send emails
• PostHog - used to record data about how the site is used, for analysis 

Data processing locations

Data processing takes place primarily in the United Kingdom. However, as Airtable, Mailchimp and Zapier are US-based companies, some data processing may occur in the United States. PostHog data processing takes place in the EU. There is also a possibility that processing may occur in other countries where these processors operate infrastructure or where their staff are located.

How long we keep your data

Sign-up and form response data is kept for as long as is necessary to facilitate contacting you about your submission and any follow up about the campaign. 

Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the following rights in relation to your personal data:

• Right of access. You can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
• Right to rectification. You can ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
• Right to erasure. You can ask us to delete your personal data in certain circumstances.
• Right to restrict processing. You can ask us to limit how we use your data in certain circumstances.
• Right to object. You can object to our processing of your data where we rely on legitimate interests as our lawful basis.
• Right to data portability. You can ask us to provide your data in a portable format.
